This web site was create as part of a scholarly project for the Masters in Education program at the University of North Dakota. The premise for this project was as follows:

Evidence-Based Strategies for Supporting Students with Trauma in Academic and Social Settings

According to National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention (2012) “Twenty-six percent of children in the United States will witness or experience a traumatic event before they turn four.” Schools across the nation have conducted trauma informed education programs for teachers and staff. These programs often teach how to identify students that have been affected by trauma but do not identify strategies that educators and staff can implement to support students who have experienced trauma in academic and social settings.

Research will be conducted on effective strategies for supporting students who have experienced trauma. A website will be developed that includes a variety of evidence-based strategies, identification tools, and other trauma care resources from reputable trauma informed care resources. The goal of this project is to provide a resource to 1) help educators and school staff identify potential indicators of trauma in students and 2) assist educators in locating evidence-based strategies to support these students in academic and social settings.

The resulting resource website may help educators and staff improve self-efficacy by implementing research-based strategies to support their students who have experienced trauma. Students who have experienced trauma may also benefit from this resource by being provided evidence-based strategies in their academic and social settings.
